Kashmir Valley
History of Kashmir
Kashmir, a region of stunning beauty, has a rich history. It was part of the Mauryan Empire, followed by the Kushan and Gupta dynasties, with influences from Buddhism, Hinduism, and later Islam in the 14th century. The Mughals, especially Emperor Jahangir, cherished it as a retreat. In 1846, the British sold it to Maharaja Gulab Singh under the Treaty of Amritsar. After the 1947 partition, Kashmir became a conflict zone, leading to its division between India and Pakistan.
